ARCANGELO SASSOLINO
Cinisello Balsamo (Milan): Silvana Editoriale, 2022
This book, edited by Ilaria Bernardi, is a first attempt to examine the entire research of Arcangelo Sassolino (Vicenza, 1967) by providing a chronology raisonné of his most important works over two decades of activity.
Sassolino adopts “conflict” as the core concept of his art. Contrasting industrial materials, mechanical or thermodynamic machinery capable of destroying them or of modifying their status, and ideas related to limit, tension, unpredictability, fragility, danger, failure, and mortality are key to all of his works. Sassolino sees the sculpture as an unplanned, independent action, one entirely freed from the artist’s choices: the focus shifts to the process that generates it, corresponding to a conflict between different materials, emotions, forces, and entropy cycles.
