Devised exclusively for digital use. Its aim is to animate the Mauro Staccioli archive and turn it into a tool that looks toward the future rather than just the past. Hence, it is not a ‘virtual exhibition,’ in other words, a virtual transposition of works that are actually physical objects, but an exhibition of works which are meant to be experienced through a computer, tablet, or smartphone screen. The aim, therefore, is to reflect, use, and highlight the distinctive opportunities given by the digital dimension, that is, the dimension set to be more and more of a fixture in the present day and above all in the future. The digital works included in this project are not didactic tributes to Staccioli, since, taking their cue from his thought, they actualize it and go further, inducing further reflections, even opposing ones, but fundamental for an in-depth understanding of the space and time in which we live. Reflecting on Staccioli’s research, which is so connected to the physical perception of a concrete space in relation to an equally tangible work, means in fact asking whether and how the advent of the digital has changed the modes, themes, and purposes intrinsic to making art, as well as to its perception.

The exhibition is part of a broader project, curated by Ilaria Bernardi, titled Digital for Mauro Staccioli and winner of the Toscanaincontemporanea 2020 call for proposals, which envisages drafting and putting online an inventory of archival material in the Archivio Staccioli in view of its digitization, as well as an enhancement of digital platforms (sitoweb and social) in order to encourage and facilitate knowledge of the artist, especially by younger generations more inclined to online research.

Exhibited artists: Massimo Bartolini, Francesco Carone, Loris Cecchini, Vittorio Corsini, Daniela De Lorenzo, Flavio Favelli, Giovanni Ozzola, Paolo Parisi, Luigi Presicce, Enrico Vezzi.
