Ilaria Bernardi (1985) is a Curator and Contemporary Art Historian.

In addition to being interested in current international art, in particular art linked to social issues and human rights, she specializes in Italian artistic research from the postwar period to the present time, focusing especially on the research of the Arte Povera artists.

She is currently the curator of the exhibition activities for the Associazione Genesi and, in particular, she is the developer and curator of Progetto Genesi. Arte e Diritti Umani, a traveling exhibition and educational project promoted by the Associazione Genesi since 2021.

She also collaborates on an ongoing basis with the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the promotion of Italian contemporary art abroad.

She has a Ph.D. in Art History as well as a National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in Contemporary Art History: given her broad experience as the head of and scientific consultant for artist archives, as well as for private collectors, she has been a professor of Artist Archives for second-year students in the Master’s degree “Art, Valorization Strategies and the Markets” at IULM University in Milan since 2022.

In her previous collaborations Ilaria Bernardi has worked, among others, with Germano Celant and, at the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, with Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev.

She has curated exhibitions for public institutions and important exhibition venues both in Italy and abroad, including: Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Roma; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, MAXXI, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome; Triennale, Milan; Villa e Collezione Panza, Varese; Museo di Santa Giulia, Brescia; Fondazione Ragghianti, Lucca; Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo di Palazzo Fabroni, Pistoia; Magazzino Italian Art, Italian Cultural Institute, ArtOmi, New York; Italian Cultural Institute, Madrid; Keyes Art Mile and Wits Art Museum, Johannesburg; 6 Spin Street, Cape Town.

She has edited several exhibition catalogs and monographs, and she has published numerous essays volumes, conference proceedings and scientific magazines.
